Barnardo's advertisment timeline

Barnardos are known for there controversial advertisments. Below is a timeline of these graphic and once banned adverts and I have written a discription next to the images.

Here are four still adverts from Barnardo's. As you can see these images all show newly born babies. All of these pictures show something horrible happening to the child and gives a discription of what this child will be subjected to in later life. Therefore the public feels sorry for them because they small and inoccent and Barnardos are promoting the fact that as a society we can do something to prevent child suffering.

When these adverts were first made they were banned.

Barnardos Case study

Hi guys, this below is a Barnardos case study-

What is Barnardos?-

Barnardos is a children’s charity. The charity deals with children who are coping with, poverty, disability, abuse and exploitation. The public can support the campaign, therefore making our country a, more safer, and loving environment.

History-

Thomas Barnardos, who came to London in 1866, was horrified to find children sleeping in the streets and being forced to beg for food. Barnardos then decided to set up the Ragged School and started to help abused, neglected and forgotten children. Thomas Barnardos died in 1905. Before his death Barnardos managed to set up 96 homes caring for more than 8,500 children. Today, Barnardos cares for more than 100,000 children and their families. (http://www.barnardos.org.uk/) Barnardos believed that children deserve the best start in life, and as a society today, we also share the same vision.

Barnardos today- The Duchess of Cornwall was made president of the charity in October 2007. Since becoming Barnardos persident she has jumped straight into her new role by embarking on a series of visits to see the vital work of Barnardos at first hand. . http://www.barnardos.org.uk/who_we_are/president.htm

Date of advert:

Advert Title: What will become

Charity: Barnardo's

Mis en scene: Generic bases that we can all identify. Swimming pool, living room etc. Cold bland places. The solitude of the locATION REFLECTS THE LONLENESS OF THAT CHARACTER.

Editing: The editing is very suttle, its just straight cuts, theres no special effects. The text below the child has been edited. Capital letters for the imporatnt words.

Sound: Non diagetic sound, splashing of the water to emphasise where they are.

Camera angle/ movement/position: Binary oppositions of the boy in the swimming pool and the boy who wants to be a fireman. Close-ups on the childrens faces to show that they are the full subject of what the viewer is seeing. Long shot of girl looking at the camera which is a very child like thing to do. A long shot is used to show the little boy in a public swimming pool with 2 people in the background. The caption underneath says he will kill 2 people when he is older, the tow people in the background relate to this. Or perhaps, because he is in a public place it shows how he will be a menace to societ and be a threat to the public.

Advert title: Lost

Charity: Missingpeoplescharity

Mise En Scene: Establishing shot at the beggining- a playground. Carnaval music playing in the background. The bicycle wheel turning around represents a record player. The moving roundabout etc shows that there has been activity in the playground and the sounds of children playing emphasises this.

Editing: All prolongued shots

Sound: Carnaval music playing and the sound of children playing. Non Diagetic sound because there are no children actually playing in the park, therefore the sound of the children has been added.

GeoLipsh93 first blog!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys

I am going to tell u a bit about what I am doing with my creative and media course at college. I have been put into a group of 4 and we are creating ideas on how to raise money for a charity- we are not shore what this charity is yet though. We have got a few ideas including, a bike ride from the college to Oxford, or climb the tallest mountain in england- well when I say mountain in England it will probably be a nameless large hill which the top can easily be reached just by a gentle stroll!! LOL. We also had another idea to sail the channel, but I get really sea sick!!!!!! so for me thats out of the question!!! I will probably pick a charity like cancer research or Oxfam.
